REKKER presents ZABALAK, a new architectural concept designed to seamlessly integrate into the home and its surrounding landscape. Its name, which in Basque refers to spaciousness and openness, encapsulates a vision of the kitchen that transcends traditional boundaries. Materials, light, and craftsmanship combine to create a space where architecture, nature, and daily life coexist in harmony, transforming the kitchen into the true heart of the home.
An architecture that opens up to the surroundings and the landscape
ZABALAK has been designed for projects where the home maintains a constant connection with the outdoors. Large openings, fluid layouts, and a carefully considered volumetric composition allow for this. Natural light and the landscape become part of the domestic experienceThe kitchen ceases to be a separate room and instead becomes the focal point of the home, connecting the dining room, living room, and terrace.
This continuity extends outwards through K7 Outdoor Kitchen, integrated into the terrace as a natural extension of the project. Both kitchens share an architectural language, materiality, and design philosophy, creating a single experience between the interior and the landscapeCooking and sharing thus transcend the limits of the home.
Xavier CastileREKKER CEO and Product Director explains that "with ZABALAK we wanted to explore a kitchen where architecture doesn't end at the boundaries of the home." A vision in which Material, light, and craftsmanship combine to create an experience designed to last., linked to how we live today and how we want to continue living tomorrow.
Wood and natural materials define the identity of ZABALAK
One of the most characteristic features of ZABALAK lies in its solid oak fronts, made by means of a succession of vertical slats. The composition provides rhythm, depth, and architectural presence.Meanwhile, the repetition of the slats creates a play of light and shadow that evolves throughout the day and adds a lively texture to the space.
Each door incorporates an integrated handle also made of solid oak which, in some modules, reaches 2,20 meters in length. The handle becomes part of the furniture's architecture., reinforcing the continuity of the lines and highlighting REKKER's technical ability and artisanal mastery in woodworking.
The selection of materials responds to their ability to build atmospheres and engage with light and the passage of time. Oak brings warmth and authenticityMeanwhile, high-performance mineral surfaces introduce precision, visual continuity, and resistance to everyday use. Their combination establishes a balance between tradition and innovation.
The craft as a value present in every detail of the kitchen
The kitchen is organized around a large horizontal volume with pure lines and generous proportions that brings together the functions of preparation, cooking, washing and storage. This volume becomes the center of domestic life, while a vertical element integrates the cold storage columns and storage with a discreet presence.
The project is completed with a sideboard conceived as an extension of the kitchen towards the dining room. The closed modules and backlit shelves provide depth and visual lightness.as well as new customization possibilities that reinforce the continuity between the different areas of the home.
The attention to detail continues inside the furniture, with wooden drawers assembled using dovetail joints, a traditional joinery technique. REKKER takes the value of craftsmanship to the least visible detailsUnderstanding quality from every joint and machining step, ZABALAK thus proposes a kitchen designed to become part of the architecture and endure over time.
